I love New York. I have since my very first time here. I can’t quite put my finger on why. But I just feel good being here. Energized. Happy.
We arrived last night, late, to our lovely hotel room in lower mid-town – roughly the size of a large walk in closet. But very nice. Grabbed a slice of pizza at 2am. Had a nice chat with the desk clerk. Then headed to bed.
We started our day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I’ve been here 100 times, but Roger’s never been. So we made our rounds through some of my favorite exhibits. And made a special stop at the Arms and Armor exhibit just for him. We were about to leave when I decided on a whim to ask someone at the information desk what her favorite exhibit was. She said she liked the Impressionist exhibit. So off we went. Lovely. Up close and personal with some Monet’s and Van Goughs. Not a bad way to start the day. A few photos from the experience.
Last night, I asked our cab driver what his favorite part of New York was. He replied, Central Park. He liked to go and sit among the 100 year old oak trees. So next we were off to wander Central Park. No particular destination in mind. But headed in the direction of the Conservatory. Beautiful. Full of life. We soaked it in and took some lovely photos. Here are a few of my favorites. And if anyone can tell me what the firework looking flower is, that would be great. We and some other tourists were wondering 🙂
I don’t know if I did justice to the cabbie’s Central Park experience, but it sure was lovely.
Next it was on to the drug store to tend to my blistered feet. We took the subway to Union Square and came out to find a Walgreens, shining in front of us like heaven. Loaded up on bandaids, cushions, no rub stuff, etc. We still had hours to go after all. Party on.
We made a valiant attempt to find my favorite little corner bagel shop (it has everything under the sun, including bagels), the Giant Bagel shop. But were unsuccessful. We did however, find the building where I went to school one summer. Running out of daylight, we hopped back on the subway down to Wall Street. We considered taking a tour. But decided instead, to hop the ferry over to Brooklyn for dinner. With intentions of watching the sunset over Manhattan.
Our ragged feet didn’t allow for much wandering. But we did get some tasty pizza where we could watch the pizza magicians making each custom pie before sliding it into a coal fired oven. That’s what we call dinner and a show.
We took the ferry north along Brooklyn and back to mid-town. It yielded some lovely shots of sunset over the city. I love the visual elements of bridges. And intersecting lines of buildings. New York is pretty much my giant big-girl playground!
A little jaunt back to our hotel neighborhood in Korea Town. But first a quick stop for dessert. After all, we walked over 25k steps today according to Roger’s little pedometer.
Upon returning to our hotel, I crawled into bed to let my little piggies recover. Tomorrow, thicker socks and generous use of bandaids are in order. Worth every blister 🙂
